We believe that the real Jesus is really attractive. We believe hope, peace and joy is possible when we allow Jesus into our lives. We're not perfect but we believe in doing life with people. It's about being the church, not doing churchy things. Jesus can save people and the Holy Spirit convicts behavior, not us. We love God and we love people.

Interested in Cornerstone but not sure where to start?
Two interlocking "C's" are abbreviated for Cornerstone Church.
Together
The interlocking aspects remind us of hands connected, that we are not in this alone and we are interwoven... worshipping, serving, connecting, and doing life together.
Our Foundation
The multi dimensional view is that of a cube or Cornerstone, a strong foundation built on Christ.
Outward Focus
The angles facing outward and all directions remind us that we are about going out into the world, externally, focused on reaching people and sharing God with the world.
Effingham & Beyond
White space inside the logo form a small "e", as a reminder we start in our own community of Effingham.
Christ as Center
The diamond shape in the center represents Jesus Christ, the Center of it all. Everything revolves around Jesus.
Our History
In October of 1949, twenty-two of our “big brothers and big sisters” gathered at Effingham’s American Legion Hall, the Odd Fellows Hall, and even individual homes, calling themselves Central Church of Christ. In 1953, Central Church of Christ moved into a property at the corner of Willow and Brentwood in Effingham. After five years of growth, the property at 1007 S. Willow was purchased. It was time to take the next step in accomplishing the mission given to us by Jesus – making disciples. Construction on the Willow Street Church of Christ began in 1958, and by 1960 we were worshiping there.
Years later, it was decided that the best way to continue our mission was to buy property on the south end of town and build a building. And again, we changed our name, becoming Cornerstone Christian Church, a drastic step we leaned into boldly because of our convictions. Ministry has flourished as Cornerstone moved forward, building on the previous generation’s legacy with respect for what has been and the pursuit of what could be. We have another opportunity to continue in that tradition.
It’s time to make improvements to the tool God has given us in our building and grounds. We want to use this building to ensure Cornerstone is on the frontlines of ministry in Effingham and beyond for generations to come. We want to make sure our children and grandchildren have a group of people to grow with, be on mission with, and a church to call home.
Cornerstone continues to make disciples of Jesus by loving God, loving people, loving Effingham and beyond!

We want to get to know you.
We believe everyone who encounters Cornerstone in-person or online has a story to tell. Do you?
